vm coloring tut for photoshop cs2

Feb 12, 2006 15:17

hello my fellow vm lovers :D
i really couldn't decide on which icon tut to make SO i made a new icon and basically it's only got the coloring
THIS IS HOW I USUALLY DO IT
 :D have fun :D

>>>

this tutorial mainly consists of ADJUSTMENT LAYERS so if you don't have any knowledge on those, i suggest you just find another tutorial.

ok, start with your base, duplicate it once and set it to screen

>>>

then, make a new curves adjustment layer

RGB - Input: 106 Output: 150
Red - I: 115 O: 137
Green - I: 114 O: 130
Blue - I: 82 O: 142
click OK and youll get something like this

set the curves layer to soft light

>>>

make ANOTHER curves adjustment layer
here, you will need to make 6 different setts

click anywhere on the line in the RGB
Input: 8 Output: 0
another click
Input: 33 Output: 79
yet another click
Input: 63 Output: 142
another one
Input: 91 Output: 186
again
Input: 167 Output: 245
and the last one
Input: 225 Output: 253
youll get a diagram that looks something like this
I suggest you save both of these curves settings we just made, so you dont have to enter them manually every time, you can just load them from your disk :D
ok, so after this layer your icon will look something like this

then set the curves2 layer to MULTIPLY

>>>

duplicate the base layer again, drag it over to the top and set it to screen again

>>>

and thats basically how you do it.
now what i usually do in the end, is make a new selective color adjustment layer and alter the RED and YELLOW colors
like this:

/

if you wish, you can alter all the other colors as well, and yeah, i usually do it but i didnt want to here for the sake of coloring :D
so after adding this layer, you're basically done.

>>>

have fun with this, and remember to experiment, sometimes a light blue layer set to color burn really adds, or maybe a dark blue exclusion layer and so on....
