Thanks for the suggestion. My dad has very minimal computing skills, though, and Ubuntu is a little outside his comfort zone. Hell, he still can't even check his voicemail on his cell phone; I check the messages every time I visit and tell him if he's missed anything important!
Yeah, I could get to the boot screen via an F-key and selected the cd, but it just flat-out wouldn't run it. Wouldn't even try to spin it (even though it would try other cds). I did find out that he's got a recovery drive partitioned that I can get to now that XP is on there, so maybe that will be enough to get Vista up and running again. Thanks!
