I have an identical situation, where my 2.5 year old son speaks only English and knows "poka" and "solnyshko" in Russian. His Dad is American. I found that, with my son in daycare since he was 4 months of age, he wasn't going to learn Russian without significant effort on my part, and I wasn't prepared to expend it at this time. 99% of folks out there click their tongues and tell me that I have to teach him Russian, that he needs to know it (but can't tell me WHY he needs it), that so-and-so's kid speaks perfect Russian and perfect English, that an "extra" language never hurt anyone, etc. Just wanted to say that I'm so relieved to find someone with the identical view of this issue to mine.
