This year's been terrible, worse than any other I can remember. It's not down to Harry, though (well, unless you count him existing in the first place, and he didn't exactly ask to exist)- I mean, if he and Dumbledore hadn't been around then Hogwarts probably would've been taken by now or something, and that'd be far worse. But I get what you mean- if we'd only been in a different year...

Still, I guess in a way we got the best deal. If we were older and already graduated, then we'd be out either doing something to aid the war effort or trying to ignore it, which would be scary, and if we were younger then we wouldn't know how to defend ourselves at all if we were attacked. At least now we're old enough to know a few good hexes, and we're still in the safest place we could be for another whole year.

But it's horrible that a war has to happen at all.

It seems like every year I'm here, things get worse and worse.

I know what you're saying, kind of. Sometimes I hate being so young and I'm not sure I could defend myself if push came to shove. Whatever happened to Defence professors like Professor Lupin?

And the war scares me. Sometimes I think it would have been better if I was just a Muggle and didn't know any better.

Padma, I think right now I'm close to understanding how the Hufflepuff's might have felt at the end of 4th Year. But I guess I should be thankful that it hasn't gotten worse.

Sorry to scare you, Stacey. If it helps, I really do think we're safe in the Castle. If anything did happen I'm sure we'd be able to protect ourselves. This is a castle after-all. As long as there are no more secret-passages containing invincible petrifying snakes, zombies, ogres, boggarts, dementors and dragons, we should be fine.

Okay--okay, I've frightened myself. Deep breath. Maybe we just shouldn't think about it.

All this and we're still expected to burn through these projects and assignments like it's--

Yeah, or how the Slytherins felt last October, maybe? Not that Daphne was as popular as Cedric, but still...I'm really glad all our Ravenclaws are still, well, alive.

I hope to God there's no more secret stuff hiding around, but who knows? Sometimes I think we attract it.
