i think out of the probable careers, your first option is the best. even though mason sucks (believe me i know, i go here), you would have infinite opportunities to connect with nonprofits up here because of DC being so close. grad school is more of an investment in your future, so it should be less about how sucky the area is and more about whether you think it will get you on a career path you see yourself in.
ahhh you're totally right, i'm scared of how expensive it is though! i cannot move back into my parents' house, do you live in the dorms or in an apartment?
i live in an apartment near campus, but my parents pay for it :\ the best way to cut costs is to live in a house with like 3 or 4 other people, which i'm trying to do once my lease here is up. right now my rent is 750 including utils, and most of the places i'm looking to move with my 3 friends would bring down the rent to like 500-600, but not including utils (which probably wouldn't be that bad split between 4 people). you could totally find a spot in a place like that if you looked diligently on craigslist.
are you starting grad school in the fall, or are these options in the very distant future?
i'm definitely taking a year off and maybe more depending on how things go like if i get a job or not! i'm moving into a new apartment and wanted to stay in richmond at least 2 more years but if things look bleak then i'll go back to school which my parents would pay for
