I just found out about a case from 2003 where a Russian writer was sued because she was trying to copy JK Rowling with a series about a girl called Tanya Grotter! I'm not even kidding lol. It's about a girl who's an orphan, has a mark on her face, goes to a magical school and had to go live with her relatives the Durnevs because an evil sorceress

There was a guy from China and another one from Germany who did something exactly like that, with wizard school and similar sounding names and all. I can't believe they'd expect it to actually work.
