Absolutely. He's still a world-class douchebag. Nothing can change that.

that's a good story.
i met a vet on Memorial Day down at the beach...it's very humbling and quite natural to NOT go into personal rants while wanting to engage them about...SOMETHING important. It's those preconceived notions and assumptions that get in the way...so I say we should start our own dialogue as much as possible.

the whole thing is getting me down all over again.

For memorial day this year, I wrote my SO a letter explaining how much I appreciate everything that he had done for the country, and me personally (He served in Desert Storm). He knows I don't support war, especially not the current one, and not Desert Storm, although I was too young at the time to really understand that war was bad. He shares the same opinion of war, in that this war was avoidable. He didn't share his opinion of Desert Storm, though ( ... )

Hrmm...I must now apologize for this comment. It seemed relevant when I wrote it, but now that I re-read it...it just sucks. But I won't delete it, 'cause people who delete comments make me want to kill small animals. So I'll just apologize.

It seemed well-thought-out when I wrote it...

Mutual respect. Honor. Agreeing to disagree. These are some of the only ways that the vast chasm of misunderstanding and alienation between people in this country -- and, perhaps, this world -- may ever hope to be bridged.

Its really refreshing to read this post. So many people take on "I'm right" screaming matches without having an ACTUAL CONVERSATION these days. Thanks for sharing this experience of yours.
