lol god it was so bad. but like, mediocre-ly bad. When something's really bad there's at least some entertainment value but this was so boring as well as being bad.
Just... why? It was beautiful! And this is coming from someone who only watched series 1 and 2, Blink, some random s episodes (of both Nu and Classic) and the 50th special (on cinemas! I actually travelled to watch it! And I loved i to pieces too), so I have no particular like or dislike towards any actor/character/showrunner.
lol well... this post sort of encapsulates most of the things I thought were bad about it. I thought virtually everything was bad. The plot was bad. The time jumps were bad -- why would I care about a character who spends literally hundreds of years off screen? The characters' behaviours were bad. Most of the writing was bad. Clara was underused and given very little to do besides cry. Once again we had a character (Tasha Lem) thrown in as an "old friend" without us ever seeing how or why she knew the Doctor. The sexual stuff and nudity was inappropriate and creepy. All the dozens of bits that don't make sense (the villains working together, the town that doesn't progress or change at all in like 400 years, the Doctor aging suddenly now when he never has before, the truth field that is constantly foiled, the crack plotline, etc
( ... )
It was so bad. I keep side eyeing everyone on Tumblr who thinks it was perfect. Just... what? And I'm so mad at how pathetic they keep making Clara. She's smart and capable, but she's clingy and always comes crawling back when he treats her like shit. Like someone else said: Jenna Coleman is a brilliant actress and deserves a lot better. So does Clara. Here's hoping 12 treats her better but LOL with Moffat's writing.
Yes I'm really frustrated with what's become of Clara in these last few eps. I liked her so much in s7b and I think Jenna's such a great actress and the material she's had lately has basically amounted to "look pretty and cry". It's so sad. I mean, the Doctor was pretty terrible to her in this ep -- he flat-out lied to her face and ... she... doesn't really question it or anything. In general, Steven Moffat won't let anyone stay mad at the Doctor for any length of time and I think it's a real weakness. The companions forgive him everything... and I get that they aren't going to hate him forever, but they could at least be mad for an episode. You know, conflict! Between characters!
Oh god this reminds me of how when neither Amy or Rory seem angry at him AT ALL in The God Complex after The Girl Who Waited. REALLY? HE LET YOUR OLDER SELF, WHO COULD HAVE BOARDED THE TARDIS, JUST DIE, AND NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT? OK!!
Yeah that's exactly what I mean! Even in AGMGTW, after Amy realizes she's LOST HER BABY she's upset for about three seconds and then someone says "it's not his fault" and she's like "I know". OR in Let's Kill Hitler it's like 'hey you didn't answer our phonecalls ABOUT FINDING OUR BABY, have you had any luck?" and he's like "lol no whatever" and that's it! And then at the end of TDTWTW, after he's left Amy and Rory to THINK HE WAS DEAD FOR YEARS FOR NO REASON (!!!!!) and made them grieve him and all that BS, he shows up and goes "I'm not dead lol" and she's like "well I'm not hugging first" and that's it! She doesn't mention what a TOTAL DICK MOVE it was to let them think he was dead or make them witness his fake death and leave them mourning him for so long!
like, damn son. Doctor/Rose and Ten & Martha and Ten & Donna had fights and conflicts that would last entire episodes. Moffat's companions let the Doctor get away with anything.
