Most of the idiocy can be attributed the the teacher's union which has turned into a disaster.

Yep. About the only way to get fired (for real) is to mess around with students. Even then a lot of teachers are allowed to "resign" to spare the district legal expenses.

Yet another reason we need market competition for education.
