I haven't pumped really except for twice in over 7 months. DD is 14.5 months. I got an oz each time I've pumped recently. Is the pump kind of a loss now? Any ideas to get some output. We aren't giving a milk alternative. She nurses A LOT so I'm not really feeling like the milk isn't there..

I have trouble if I've had a break and I'm better when I do it several days in a row. Make sure you drink a TON of water - I try and drink several litres in the morning on the days I'm at work (when I pump) otherwise I get hardly anything. Also make sure you relax when you do it. I breathe really deeply and slowly exhale and try and relax my body. Also adjusting the pump setting up and down and repositioning it sometimes helps me. If you are really struggling you could try pumping one side while feeding on the other (this is hard to do with a wriggly baby, but I always get lots this way - although she gets jealous of the pump). Also lactation cookies and oats or beer are supposed to be good. Drink lots. LOTS!

The same thing happened to me with Jenny, probably even earlier than that. I would pump and pump but to little avail. I nursed until about 18 months so it wasn't a supply issue, I think they just weren't used to it anymore or wouldn't respond to the pump, I don't know.

Does DD stand for Designated Drinker?

To increase supply, I have done:

1) try fenugreek. It's an herbal supplement. Makes you smell like maple syrup. 3 caps, 3 times a day. Worked for me. Perfectly safe for baby:) I have found that certain brands didn't work as well as others, so don't be shy about trying a couple. As soon as you, your sweat, your pee smells like maple syrup, you know it's working:)

2) try mothers milk tea. 5 cups a day. Again, worked for me and quickly. I hate taste, so I would brew it, let it cool and chug it.

3) increase water intake (duh, I know but some people don't think about it) I tried to drink 5, 20oz bottles of water every 8 hours.

4) after each nursing session, pump to the point of empty and for 10 minutes after. Supply and demand, if pump demands after empty, logic says supply will increase

-if 4 isn't doable, try-

5) pick two times during the day, before baby wakes in the morning and after she goes to bed at night, pump. Again, pump until empty and then for 10 minutes after. After a week or so, you should notice an increase, even if its a few ( ... )
