Because I am fortunate enough to live in Olympia, I was able to attend
Homo-a-go-go. It was absolutely amazing.
I got there in the middle of this guy talking about pet monkeys, and how his first got fried to death while playing on telephone wires, and how its carcass is still hanging from there despite his attempts to knock it down. I laughed. It was funny at the time. When he said it.
Then Tami Hart played a small set.
She was decent. I hadn't heard about her before this, but I wished she had played longer.
Then Tracy and the Plastics came on stage.
It was bizarre. I'm a fan of the music, but I've never seen her perform live before. She just stood in front of a movie playing clips of her dancing in wigs and muttering "fag. dyke. lezziequeer." And she sang. And it was good.
Then Team Dresch.
Oh my GOLLY, that was fucking amazing. That's when things got wild. Everyone was pressed up against eachother, dancing, screaming along to all the songs, throwing items of clothing onstage. It was the most wonderfully sweat-ridden experience I've had in my entire life. (Someone even took the opportunity to yell, "SMELLS LIKE ASS AND PUSSY!" I would have to agree on that count). Hot topless girls were everywhere -- crowd surfing, dancing on stage, in the crowd, and I swear I was even sandwiched by a couple at one point. Glorious. By the end of the show, even my top was half off. Girls were making out everywhere, one couple was three inches away from my face (which made for some awkward maneuvering).
Do any of you listen to Team Dresch, or having you seen them? If so, who's your favorite? Mine is definitely Donna. She's magnetic.
I also saw this guy in a poncho singing about showers and food with a back up band of people dressed fruits and throwing bananas, oranges, etcetera off into the audience. But I can't find a picture for him anywhere.
Anyway, the night ended with all the band members crowd surfing while "I Love Rock n' Roll" blasted on the speakers and everyone sang and danced along to it. It was an amazing sense of unity.
And then I came home to find Ashlee Simpson on the television; a perfect ending to a perfect night.
