Oh, I think Gwen was evil (well, possessed) and Arthur found him ferreting in her wardrobe and suspected him of having a pervy thing for her clothes? Also Merlin was framed for trying to murder Arthur by poison.

All post ASH, I fear. Not that he isn't still hot, but c. 1999? Mmmffff.

Then you are MISSING OUT. There is mystery and intrigue! Giles has to pretend to be Uther after Merlin accidentally magically disappears the King during the illicit sex they're having. Arthur gets suspicious! Merlin placates him with bad man-servanting and arranged assignations with the Knights! Morgana and Gwen are together because that is how a lot of Merlin fanfic rolls! But surprise!! It is GAIUS who is Giles ~fated love~!!! Can Merlin get Gauis and Giles together while returning Uther from wherever the hell the plot set him!?!? Will Giles ever return home to Sunnyvale!?!?!? Because p.s. the spell that disappeared Uther made Giles show up. I'll mention that earlier in the story than in the summary.
(I should ask blue if she'll co-write with me. I don't think she's watched Merlin either.)

Also the title will be in sparkly bubble letters and you wouldn't want to miss that.
