Some friends have asked them to go to Whitby with them this Autumn. I'm in 2 minds as to whether to go

Could you go to Whitby and avoid actually going to WGT? I'm sure there's interesting things to see in the surrounding area.

I'd say no because I am not a fan of being used as a taxi service, friends or no friends, and it would appear you don't really want to go. Unless you do go and basically avoid most of the actual festival and do other stuff... but you could do that anywhere.

You've both got good points, there's always Scarborough, Goathland ('tho I'm not a fan of Heartbeat) and of course Robin Hood's bay, but I still haven't decided either way.
