I'm listening to Appalachian music and people can tell me it's loserish but I don't give a damn. It makes me happy, happier than any type of modern pop music can possibly make me.
The only reason I use music genres is because they are easy to refer to and it's easier for us to talk about. The truth is, I don't believe in genres all that much.
Pop-rock, mainstream pop, punk rock, heavy metal, hip hop, R&B, country, bluegrass, folk, Celtic, classical, industrial rock, emo, blues, jazz... what are they? Nothing but names. They don't actually mean anything. Just mindless classifications. And sometimes there are so many blurred lines, shades of grey, that you don't even know which to use.
Nope, there's actually no such thing as genres. There's only music and noise. And even that can hardly be expressed properly. One man's music is another man's noise. So perhaps there is only beauty, because without a doubt, music is one of the most beautiful things we possess on this planet.
Music can never hurt anyone. Yet it affects us, changes us in ways nobody can possible understand. We listen to it, humming or singing along, and suddenly we are different, and we don't know how we got there. We find ourselves thinking different thoughts, feeling different emotions, and we never know why. We will never know why. We just know that it is, and carry on with our lives.
Every musician has the power to touch lives. It doesn't matter if you play an instrument or sing. It doesn't even matter if you do it well. It is enough to simply let the music flow through you, wash away every worry in your mind and soothe your soul. And with that, you find that you have what it takes to touch others.
It's beautiful.
A silly girl's ramblings. You don't have to pay attention, though it might be nice.
