I picked up a copy of Gail Carrier's newest book, Heartless, this week! I had the chance to finish reading it yesterday, so here are my thoughts.
Gail Carriger's books are always such a fun read. I loved the plan to let Lord Akeldama adopt Alexia and Conall's baby and to have Alexia and Conall move into his (second best) closet. I basically love any excuse to have Lord Akeldama around more though. I also enjoyed having Biffy around more. I felt sorry for him though because he was having such a hard time with the werewolf transformation and because he and Lord Akeldama couldn't be together (I ship Lord Akeldama/Biffy like FedEx~).
There were a few surprising things for me in the novel. I was surprised at Madame Lefoux rampaging about the city, but I do understand that she was only trying to get Quesnel back after the vampires abducted him. I was also surprised that Professor Lyall was the one behind the Woolsey pack's "assassination" attempt on the queen, though I understand his reasons for doing it. I was even more surprised (but pleased) when it was revealed that Professor Lyall and Alexia's father had been in love. It made me feel bad for Prof. Lyall because it seems like he's definitely still in love with Alessandro Tarabotti. However, the most surprising part of the novel was Prudence, Alexia and Conall's daughter. At first she appeared human, but it appears that she can also turn into a werewolf or a vampire (depending on her proximity to each one?)! I haven't seen this concept done before, so I'm excited to learn more about it. I can't wait until Timeless is released next year!
