DIVISION - Groan of Diplosomia 01

I saw GazettE on Tuesday night! They were fantastic as usual!

I'd been waiting for this concert for months, so of course by the time it arrived I had a cold. (I've had colds two out of the four times I've seen GazettE. Not cool. Luckily, both times were at seated lives and not standing lives.) I didn't feel horrible though, so it didn't hold me back much.

Anyways, the live was at Omiya Sonic City, which worked out really well because I had a JET business trip in Urawa on the same day. As soon as work was over, I hopped on the train. Ten minutes later I was in Omiya. I changed into my concert clothes and headed over to the venue to pick up my GFC ticket.

lotos79 arrived around the time that the doors opened. It was great to see her again! She had graciously agreed to buy goods for me ahead of time because I wasn't sure what the lines would be like by the time I arrived at the venue. I had decided on only getting the Bearbrick phone strap, the tour pamphlet, and the studded cap this time.

We went inside and found our seats. This time we were in the 8th row on the right side, which meant that I had a lovely view of Uruha this time! lotos79 and I were also lucky because even though there was one seat between our seats, that person didn't show up. So we had a little extra room and we got to be next to each other.

We didn't have to wait long before the show started. The intro was "[Diplosomia]". The band appeared on stage in their DIVISION outfits. Reita was even wearing the hood though that didn't last long once the live actually started. Everyone was looking good. I'd like to note that Uruha's hair looked very soft and pettable.

The boys kicked off the set with "Derangement" and then "Gabriel on the Gallows" (my favorite song off the new album). After that the song order gets a bit fuzzy for me, but I know they played "Vortex", "Clever Monkey", and 'Venemous Spider's Web". The live started off hard and fast as usual. The band then slowed it down in the middle of the set and played all the songs from the first disk of DIVISION.

I felt that the slow songs were particularly powerful this time. There's no moving around during these songs, just standing and listening and watching. I think this allowed me to appreciate the songs even more. Since we were close enough to the speakers I could literally feel the sound washing over me. It was enough to give me goosebumps. "Dripping Insanity" was chilling and "余韻" was heartbreaking. I also really liked the effect of the pillars of red lights shining down on the stage during "籠の蛹".

"[Depth]" played and then the boys launched into "歪". The live picked back up again with fast songs like "Hedoro", "Sludgy Cult", "Headache Man" and "Attitude". It was interesting watching the crowd figuring out the furitsuke for the new songs. Anyone who's been a GazettE fan for a while will know the furi for the old songs, but it can take a bit for the crowd to decide on the proper furi for the new songs. It'll be all straightened out by the tour final in March though and then it'll be awesome.

There were MCs somewhere in the songs. (I don't really remember where.) Ruki was a cutie. He seemed to be in a good mood. I honestly don't even remember what he talked about anymore, but at one point he started laughing which made Uruha giggle, too.

I honestly don't remember when it happened, but sometime during the first set, lotos79 caught Ruki's water bottle! Ruki was coming over to our side of the stage, but I wasn't quite paying attention to what he was doing, since Aoi and Uruha were together in the middle of the stage. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Ruki's water bottle flying towards us. lotos79 caught it and got splashed with water. I got splashed a little, but I think she got splashed a lot more than I did.

I think Uruha looked over in our direction a few times, too (since, you know, we were a row of foreigners in a sea of Japanese fans). I like to believe that he could see me jumping around. XD

The band ended the first set with "Required Malfunction" and then "[Melt]" played while the boys left the stage. We had a bit of a breather before the first encore, which is good because I needed it.

Reita and Kai kicked off 'Ride With the Rockers" as usual, but this time the song started with an electro beat. Once the rest of the band returned to the stage it was time for "Ruder". I think the rest of the set was "Tomorrow Never Dies", "Filth in the Beauty", "Cockroach" and "Linda". I've come to the realization that "Linda" is one of my favorite songs they play during the lives because of how fucking fun it is. I couldn't stop smiling during the song.

After the first encore, "Knocking On Heaven's Door" played while we chanted for another encore. The band came back out on stage and ended the live with "Kantou". "Kantou" is usually the hardest song because it happens at the end of the live, once your energy is almost used up and it goes on for forever. It's a good time though because the band always has a lot of fun with it. Reita and Aoi both came over to our side of the stage, but Ruki and Uruha came over to the catwalk up against the wall on our side of the stage, so we had an even better view of them.

At one point, Uruha grabbed one of Kai's drumsticks and banged on the drums a bit. Then, as he turned to throw it to the crowd, he accidentally dropped the drumstick on the ground and couldn't pick it up because he had to play his guitar. Aoi crouched down by the drumstick while they were playing and looked at Uruha like "I see what you did there". XD

Another moment I noticed was when Reita and Uruha clasped hands. They then kept tugging on each other's hands like they couldn't let go. Those two dorks are bros for life.

At the very end of the show, as the boys were saying their goodbyes and throwing things into the audience, Kai came over to the catwalk on our side of the stage to throw a drumstick to the second floor. He had a bit of drumstick fail though and threw it too high, so that it hit the spotlights on the side of the stage and came straight down. He then fell over in shame and I saw him mouth "ごめん” to the crowd. Lol. He then ran back to get another drumstick and try again.

Sadly, the live ended and it was time to go home. I probably overdid it more than I should have for having a cold, but I don't even care. It was worth it. I'm glad that I finally got to hear the new songs live. DIVISON's really grown on me a lot since I first listened to it. I put it my GFC request for the tour final in March, so hopefully I'll get to see the show again!
