Arianna probably thought it was totally weird that I'd called her. I didn't know who else to call. I couldn't call Carly, or Sam by association, and obviously not my brother. Besides, Arianna and I could use some girl time. We don't know each other nearly as well as we should. We're friends, but we don't spend all that much time together. This could be a nice opportunity to get to know each other a little better.
Luckily, it wasn't like I had some major crisis to work out. I just needed someone to talk to. Just needed to get a few things off my chest.
I looked up when Arianna came through the door and waved her over, setting my cup of coffee down. I'd already taken the liberties of acquiring the promised biscotti. The biscotti was important. The biscotti was key.
"Hey!" I leaned back in my chair as she approached the table. "Thanks for coming. Look! We have fudge biscotti."
I grinned and headed over. "Hey." I hummed 'Making Christmas' under my breath as I sat down, eyeing what she'd already gotten for us. Ooo... biscotti.
"Thanks for coming. Look! We have fudge biscotti."
"I name you psychic, it's my favorite." I stuffed Lock in my bag and grabbed one, munching. I don't need coffee yet, I'll wait until the actual advice thingy happens. I'll probably need it then.
"So what's the deal then?" I leaned back in my chair, looking at her. "Babysitting thing you're trying to bribe me for, you want me to yell at Sam for being stupid... try and butter Carly up for something?"
I smirked. "Or is it a guy thing?" Okay, I'm being mean and hinting... but it's fun.
I couldn't help catching sight of the doll she'd been carrying as she tucked it away in her bag.
"No Shock and Barrel, huh? At least they still have each other," I said with a smirk, breaking off a piece of biscotti and popping it into my mouth. Mmm, chocolately goodness. I don't think I could ever go a day without chocolate. It would be damn near impossible. Chocolate is vital. I'm pretty sure it's closely tied in with the meaning of life. "Well, I aim to please. Come on, sit down. Want a drink?"

"I've just been thinking we should spend some more time together, that's all," I told her, though we both knew she was there to be advice girl. We'd already talked about that on the phone. "Besides, if I wanted you to babysity, I'd have put a ten dollar bill underneath the biscotti."

"No Shock and Barrel, huh? At least they still have each other,"
Thank you, it's so good to know I'm not the only fan of that movie besides Julia. Take that, Carly. "The other two are in the bag, I like to keep them together." I grinned and waited patiently.
"Well, I aim to please. Come on, sit down. Want a drink?"
"I'll get one in a minute." I waved a hand dismissively as I got comfortable with my chocolate goodness. This should be the reward for all advice girl conversations, bar none. I'll start requiring this the next time I'm asked, because damn it, that's how it should be.
"I've just been thinking we should spend some more time together, that's all, Besides, if I wanted you to babysity, I'd have put a ten dollar bill underneath the biscotti."
"You could have done that anyway." Kidding! I'm kidding. I smirked and waited for her to stop beating around the bush. If it really is a Madsen thing, I want to know immediately. And if he messed up, I'm skipping the library to call him and yell at him with a lot of mean langauge.
"I wasn't completely smashed the whole night, you know. I saw you guys talking and dancing, Dan looked like he was really enjoying himself. It's not too hard to see that he likes you."
...
He does not. Liar. Dirty evil mean sleeping with Madsen and going to cause World War III because of it. Don't toy with my emotions here, that's not fair in the slighest. It's mean spirited, is what it is!
"No he doesn't. Don't do that to me." I muttered, sliding down in my chair even more and sipping my drink. This is so mean, now Alex of all people has started messing with my head. It's not fair!
"Because you like him? It couldn't hurt to call him up and say hi."
... She doesn't know me very well, does she? I mess up everything inevitably. People think I don't know that, but I know that. I mess up everything, and I'm left guyless. And I am not messing up things with Dan again

Oh, jeez. Here we go. Low self-esteem strikes again. Doesn't she know that women can get anything they want? Usually just by smiling real pretty, even. I know it makes me sound horrible and manipulative, but it's true. I learned all that from Carly. When it comes to men, women have all the power.
All of it.
"I don't think so. I could end up doing something really stupid."
"You won't," I told her, "And even if you do do something that you think is stupid, Dan would never notice. Guys never pick up on that stuff, no matter how outrageous it is. You're a woman, Ari. A hot chick, even. You can get any guy you want. If that guy is Dan, then go get him. All you have to do is take the first step. Guys love that, by the way."
I took another sip of my coffee. "And he does so like you. He was practically drooling on your shoes at that party."

That's very speechy and uplifiting. I like it, even though technically it's not all that true.
So, I need to take the first step. I sort of did that, but I was really reall drunk at the time. So I need to take a better first step. Which would be...
Alright, maybe I don't know that part yet... but I'll figure it out. It's going to be hard, but I'm going to do it. If I wasn't completely sure I'd get my head taken off, I'd ask Carly. She always gets what she wants out of a guy.
It's unnerving, once you get down to it.
"And he does so like you. He was practically drooling on your shoes at that party.""I didn't notice..." I frowned. Well, maybe it was just because I was trying my hardest not to drool
