i think that barack obama has done a good job of keeping some things light and i wish had clips or examples off of the top of my head, but i've seen him be silly, for sure. i mean, if making fun of yourself is an important quality, i think john mccain's sense of humor about his own age is a little boring and embarrassing (and perhaps indicative of his age? who knows?).

there is a cult of personality going on for sure, and i started off having trouble with it, as i was quickly sucked into the obamavortex (i mean quickly, i went from total skepticism to unabashed love), but after a few months (and well before he even had the nomination) i stopped conflating my love for barack obama, the person i see on tv all the time, and barack obama, the politician that i don't necessarily agree with at all times.

but to your point, i don't think that obama takes himself that seriously, but does in the way that is imperative to this kind of campaign.

i have been missing out on plenty of domestic happenings, so i'll take your word for it. i think the way john mccain has gone about his campaign both politically and on the personal side of things has been just nothing short of a disgrace. at the same time though, i can't help but feel that obama has really gotten the benefit of the doubt in lots of cases during this election. then again, something has to be said for the fact that obama's people have held themselves to a higher standard of ethics than has mccain's. so, i can't fault the media for giving him somewhat of a free pass and rewarding him for that
