The light around him was bright, almost too bright, his eyes squinting against it. He looked around him, trying to work out where he was, what this was, and why he here. There was a strange kind of peace within his body, a sort of peace he hadn’t felt in so long - Hyde was quiet, too quiet and it was almost as if…
“Henry…” his eyes opened wide at the voice, he knew that voice but she was…she was…
“Mother?” he said disbelieving as he turned around, his eyes falling over her graceful form, her long, dark brown hair so different to the dull grey he had last seen but her face was just as peaceful as the day he left her on that cold mortuary slab - 16 years old and he had lost the only person, really, he could confide in. “Mother, I…” he whispered, swallowing hard, the tears filling his eyes and falling down his cheeks.
He walked forwards slightly, his eyes scanning over her form and it couldn’t be true, she was…
“Henry…” she said again, her face breaking into a smile, her eyes shining with pride, but there was also tears in them that did not fall, her face showing something he knew she would never put into words, not here, not now. Why was she here, where was he?
He closed the gap, something incredibly surreal about the whole moment, something…unreal. He lifted his hand to touch her cheek but she shook her head, the tears falling now;
“You can’t stay here…” she whispered, her eyes showing pain; “But I am so proud of you, for everything you’ve done….so proud. Never forget that. You need to stay with her, she needs you…never let her go”
“I won’t, but mother…” he started but it was getting darker, bit by bit, he felt himself losing grip, losing his footing and his sense of reality and this was wrong, so very wrong, why couldn’t he stay there, with her, with one of the only people who had ever understood what it was to be him…
“Mother, please” he screamed into the darkness.
