Death//Eleventh Sound of her Wings//Video

[The camera appears to be... shivering? It's shaking wildly, though apparently on its own power, since it seems to be standing on the ground, near the center of one of the areas of the worst fighting. It's surrounded by corpses, and it doesn't seem to like it one bit]

Miss Didi? S-somebody?[Death straightens up, visible on the top half of the ( Read more... )

[Alex's 'berry doesn't want to cooperate, meaning that it's somewhere rebelling on the rooftop of the cape safehouse. He's walking around surveying the damage when all is clear and that's how he comes upon the area that Didi is in. With a breath, he grimaces at the corpses around, finds himself disturbed but it doesn't show on his face. It's a mere collapse in expression before he tries to recompose himself.]

... You okay?

I'm alright, love. [She straightens up after setting another body in a more natural position. She's got blood nearly up to her elbows, and her legs below the knee are also fairly soaked, though she doesn't seem bothered by it. Nothing she hasn't seen before many times.]

If you don't want to help, I understand, dear. I am quite used to this sort of thing, and I have no need to rest or eat here, it seems.

No, I-- [He's quiet when he gets closer, hands in his pockets. He swallows the lump in his throat and it doesn't go down as easy as he wants it to be.]

They... almost looked like people. Were they?

[She nods, and leans down over one of them, laying him out, then she lets out a long breath]

See.

[she lays a hand down on its chest, and the stitches, the gashes disappear. Before long, a very normal looking man is lying there, still dressed in rags, but clean, and human.]

The mind forgets. The body remembers how things were.

[Watching the process, Alex doesn't say anything--he only stares and holds his breath when the man's true form is revealed.]

So.. Once upon a time, then. Do you know what happened?

No. I only got a moment. Fragments of madness, of rage... This goes beyond the mental. These beings do not rest. [She caresses the cheek of one of them almost tenderly, ignoring the sharp staples protruding from it]

They feel anger, lust, hunger... And they wish to slake every one upon all of us. All at once.

This... is going to be very, very bad should they return and we are not prepared.

Good thing we were prepared this time. [He doesn't want to jinx anything for everyone however so instead he just rolls his shoulders at her answer, moves to fix a body as best as he can. His stomach turns but he's holding it down.]

We'll see what happens before we get sent back to the first set.

Yes. We will.

[She's not afraid. Only sad. She doesn't want to see the people she's learned to love harmed again. She knows these creatures don't want to merely kill people, that would practically be a mercy. She could deal with that]

Please try to stay away from them, Alex. Group together, defend yourselves, try to stay hidden.

I have no intentions of going face to face with these things, don't worry. [Laying out a body, he stares at the corpse for a moment, shakes his head.] Especially when I know I can't do shit.

mmmm. It is the sin of the humble that they sell themselves short, Alex.

Many would not show the enemy's dead with the same respect you are now. Many would shun a strange child, dismiss her as a problem of another, but you stepped in, possibly even saving her life in the process.

There are more roles in war than the warriors. There is much space for tacticians, for doctors, for those that procure and prepare food to fuel the bodies and those that look after the engines and weapons of war.

And in all conflict, there will be dead to respect and mourn. Always.

[He's kneeling by the corpse when she speaks and his eyes hesitate for a moment, he exhales, taking the time to register what she's saying.]

So then everything is essential, no matter what the role. [He closes the eyes of the corpse, forces himself to stomach it.] ... Thank you, Didi.

Exactly.

[She smiles]

This unsettles you, Alex. But you do it, you control yourself, and you understand what has to be done.

This makes you as essential as any other here.

If you say so. [He raises a brow and turns his head the other way, still tense but not willing to throw in the towel.]

I just don't enjoy the idea of insulting the dead, I think.

I'll take your word for it. [He wants to shove his hands in his pocket for a moment but instead he stops.]

.. They'll be back again, correct?

I would be extremely surprised if they weren't.

You should hide yourself and your loved ones.
