I didn't ever think something like this could've happened. I should've been more careful.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Mistakes happen you know.

And people might be glad that it wasn't real at least. [Ruffling your hair a bit.] And you're trying to fix things. That's a respectable thing to do.

[That seems to be a rhetorical question. Lucas will manage to look slightly less depressed, though.]

You can't really fix those. The person has to do that on their own.

I think you'll be okay. You can't blame yourself for this entire thing though. At least not all of it. There's probably a lot of ways this could have gone down, even if you could have helped prevent it.

[Lucas will pause for a moment before turning his gaze back to his lap, murmuring.]

It just seems like... I can never do enough to protect my friends from the things the town does, even though that's what I'm supposed to do. And now... something has happened that's at least partly my fault.

Hey. Look. It's frustrating not being able to protect your friends. But in a place like this, you can't beat yourself up about it either. Some things are out of your hands.

I think I know you're right. That's... the right way to do things. But I don't know if I can stop feeling the way I do.

Things hurt and they're hard to overcome. But you know, after what's all said and done, you've still overcame it right?

If you have the strength to overcome this, you'll be stronger. I think at least.

[His gaze has dropped to his feet and he murmurs, largely to himself.]

[After another minute or so of silence, he slowly looks back up again.]

[He laughs a bit.]
