The Cavalry Arrives

[ooc: For kikidelivers, mslanalang, temptingvisions, and dr_jwilsonmd. Continued from here.]
Oblivious to Kiki's distress, little Azzy and Jimmy were having a grand old time making an absolute mess of the kitchen when the reinforcements arrived. There was flour and pancake batter everywhere -- including on the wee!boys, Kiki, and much to his chagrin, Jiji. Pogo had taken off for a hiding spot at ( Read more... )

Holding on to Phale's hand, Wilson darted a little ways away from the adults, though he turned and made note of where Kiki was in particular, not planning to get too far away from her.

Stopping, he turned towards Phale and grinned.

"Pway?" He asked hopefully, looking around for something to make a game out of. Oooo pine cone! Perfect. Scampering over to it, he picked up the prickly cone and with a giggle, tossed it up in the air, letting it fall between them.

"Fwy, fwy!" He exclaimed, encouraging Phale to give it a toss!

Oh, fly! Well yes, Aziraphale could do that. That's what wings were for, after all. And his were finally dry enough to be of use.

Giving them a series of quick flaps, he ran toward the pine cone and scooped it up, then took off into the air. Once he was overhead -- not very far, really, just a foot or so above Wilson -- he let the pine cone drop.

It landed on the other boy's head, and Aziraphale giggled happily.

>Bonk!<

Blink.

Okay, new game! Called try to grab the angel's ankle cause that flying thing was no fair!!!!

Squealing with indignation, Wilson scampered after Phale, leaping up in the air and trying to grab at his little companion's ankle. He would have thrown the pine cone back at him, except he somehow knew that throwing things *at* people was a no no.

That included flying companions!

"Noooohh!!" Chase!

Oooh, this was a version of tag that he was better at! Aziraphale squealed with delight and zipped away, never going very far but doing his best to keep out of arm's reach of his friend.

His giggling was making it sort of hard for him to fly, though, and his feathers were still a little damp, which didn't help really. So it was only a matter of time before one of Wilson's leaps made contact, and a little hand wrapped around the angel's foot.

Aziraphale squeaked indignantly as he was jerked out of the air, and landed in a heap on top of his young friend.

Wilson oofed softly as they tumbled down into the fresh summer grass together. It was a relatively soft landing and as has been noted, small people bounce!

Rolling playfulling, Wilson squealed with glee at his triumphant and he giggled at Aziraphale as he tried to tumble the other boy over onto his back, wrestling with him.

Aziraphale was bigger, but Wilson was squirmier, so the wrestling was pretty evenly matched. Both boys laughed and chattered -- well, the dark-haired one chattered a bit more, being the talkative one -- until the wrestling match was decided through some secret means known only to youngsters.

Running and wrestling had tired them out a little, and for a while the wee ones lay on the grass, picking at clover heads and occasionally pointing out bugs to each other.

Laying on his tummy, little legs kicking up in the air, Wilson watched as the bugs seemed content to crawl across Aziraphale's fingers without any sort of fear. It was as if they recognized that his wee!winged companion was gentle and not out to hurt them.

Chattering up a storm, Wilson picked a nearby buttercup and tickled Phale's nose with it, crowing as he notcied the way the bright yellow petals reflected a yellow tint on the angel's cheeks. That was so neat!

Almost as neat at the small white wings, which Wilson reached over now and again to touch lightly and play with until Phale got fussy and tucked them away from him, giving the dark haired boy a little squeal of Mine, hands off! After one such squeal, Wilson turned his attention back to the bugs and his eye was caught by the most beautiful blue and yellow butterfly ( ... )

It didn't take much resting to recharge toddler batteries, and Aziraphale was perfectly happy to hop up and go chasing after his little friend. It was a pretty butterfly, and he wondered how they might catch it. And maybe take it back and show Auntie Kiki and Auntie Lana and Auntie Phoebe. And the new ladies. But not the scowly man, because he probably didn't like butterflies anyway.

But every time they got near enough to reach out, the butterfly flew off, as if it was playing tag with them.

Playing...tag! Of course! Aziraphale clapped his hands and bounced up and down, excited that he'd figured it out. "Play!" he exclaimed to Wilson, point at the butterfly.

"Pway!" Wilson agreed and he chased off after the butterfly as it continued to flutter along the neatly tended gardens.

However, eventually the rows of flowers came to an end and the butterfly flew up over a hedge towards another bed on the otherside. Wilson stopped and frowned, perplexed. Phale could fly up over the hedge as well, no problem but that just was.not.fair!!

He wanted to help catch the butterfly and take it back to Kiki and Phoebe and Lana! Giving a little yelp of wait for me! Wilson dove into the hedge, wriggling his way through the thick branches, chasing both Phale and the butterfly to the other side.

It was easier for Aziraphale with his wee wings to follow the butterfly over the unfortunate obstacle, but he landed carefully on the other side and waited for his young friend.

Unfortunately, by the time Wilson wiggled his way through the hedge, the butterfly was nowhere in sight. Looking around, the wee!angel saw that the hedge had divided the park from a street, although it wasn't one that looked familiar. Maybe the butterfly had gone home, though, because there were lots of houses on the street, and he took the other boy's hand and gave a little tug.

"Btrfwy?" Wilson asked as he finally managed to clear the hedge but when Phale shook his head regretfully, the dark haired child pouted and sighed.

Then, he closed his hand around his companion's fingers and looked around.

"Ut oh, ut oh." He exclaimed as he realized their adults were no longer in view. Hmm, this...this wasn't good. They needed to find the adults. Adults got so crabby when they got lost.

Sucking on his lower lip, Wilson tried to decide which way to go, then with a little shrug he gave Phale a gentle tug and started up the sidewalk. They'd go find the adults and everything would be okay!

The adults or the butterfly, either would be fine with Aziraphale, since he didn't have quite the same sense of attachment to big people as Wilson did. Setting off down the street, they made pretty good progress, occasionally stopping to look inside the hedge along the sidewalk, or in a mailbox or under a car, to see if they could spot the butterfly.

No such luck, but what they found instead was something even better.
