Audrey's status

I brought both cats in for their annual rabies shot yesterday, and while Goblin has finally gained a little weight (yay!), Audrey continues her downward streak, and now weighs less than Goblin for the first time ever. ( More on Audrey's medical woes. )

Would it cheer you up at all to hear that Jean-Claude is the Duchess's new boy?

We have to do subcutaneous fluids for one of our cats. We hang the fluid bag from the hooks that our shower curtain is on--they're hooks rather than rings, and they face outward so it's an easy spot to hang it from. If you don't have a setup like that, if you have a towel hook in the bathroom, or a coat hook somewhere else in the house, that can work too. (Always wondered why they had high coat hooks in every exam room at the vet till they showed me how to do fluids!)

Bonus points if the hook is near somewhere that Audrey likes to be. Delilah hides out in the bathroom a lot, so getting her to be semi-calm there is easier than if we had to do this in the living room with all of the other cats.

Jeremy sits on the floor with D while the fluids go in (I put the needle in and monitor the dose). He basically keeps one hand sort of cupped over where the needle is, and pets her with the other hand. If you can get her mostly still to put the needle in, she will likely relax a bit after that.

Good luck!

In my experience, they stayed still while getting the fluids. It seemed to kind of tranquilize them.
