Well I can't say our standards here in Australia are higher... It is high, but they don't pressure you until you're around mid high school year. When you're around that year, you have to decide which path you're going to take: VCE or VCAL. Take VCE if you want to go to university. I'm not sure about VCAL but it's for people who think they can't make to uni. We have plenty of jobs here in Australia that doesn't require you to go to uni and get a diploma/bachelor from the course you've taken.
