I'll look after him. Not to worry.

[A bunch of stuff she started to write and then couldn't finish.]

Take care of yourself, all right? And if there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you. And I appreciate the offer, but we're well prepared here. Look after yourself, and please rest; I saw what they'd done to your hair, and I hope it's all they did.

It is. Hair grows back; it's nothing to worry about.

I'd like to talk to you when you're able. Not about anything in particular, just-talk. If you want.

I'd love to, in due time. I know you're patient if nothing else. I'd seek you out now if I could, but... I would only trail an angry mass behind me upon my return. She must understand the gravity of what she's done, but not in a voice that will call for her life or livelihood. That cry is all too familiar to her, would only distract and enrage her, and achieves nothing. If I'm demoted or banished when we've done, then so be it, but not before I seek her understanding. If I don't, she'll only try again.

private - ardent just got back. and is baffled. deepdowndark January 10 2011, 14:15:15 UTC
Absolutely.

Are you sure I can't kick him out?

...I know you said no questions, Doctor, so don't answer if you don't want. But... what in the name of Tak is going on here? I was gone... a few days, right, and the place is somewhere between a ghost ship and a bubbling pit of anger. I missed something, clearly.

Only if he misbehaves in a way detrimental to the books or the people.

I granted Coyolxauhqui a chance to speak to her family, to raise her spirits a bit. She abused the privilege and somehow managed to summon them here without her powers, and a mass sacrifice was attempted and failed. I'll assume that those who didn't die were possessed by extraneous deities, injured or in hiding.

His existence is detrimental to that.

...I see. I've heard some of the story. I imagine a lot of people aren't too happy that are left alive, right?

Even so, gods will be gods.

No, his existence is simply an annoyance, but I know you're above letting it niggle you. You're made of stern stuff, and on occasion, he means well.

You're correct; they aren't happy. But they aren't mentally equipped to simply accept that gods will be gods, for the most part, and this sort of environment doesn't help matters at all. This isn't the right sort of place for deities to be bound in, nor the place for humanity to be exposed to a mythos.

[Coyolxauhqui had died with a scream of rage on her lips, looking to Xolotl and Queztalcoatl before she was cut down by that magician.

She was revived with a violent start. Though she wasn't able to sit up, her body jerked and her mouth opened, gasping for air and flailing her arms in a panic. It wasn't rage anymore, it was fear.]

[In her moment of rage, Quetzalcoatl had reached for her as his brother had, though his expression had been sad and perhaps resigned, before he'd vanished with the others and left his host near collapsing.

This morning she would find a similar look, had the Doctor intended to let his face be anything but impassive. He sat next to her expectantly, a small night stand to his other side littered with strange medications, herbs and a bowl of water with a wet cloth on the rim.

He reached to take one of her wrists in a likely restraint, still relatively weak from his own condition.]

Hush. You're safe, and whole.

[The goddesses thrashed until she felt the hand on her wrist, her arms falling as the rest of her body continued to struggle, heaving and shaking, as if trying to fight the feeling of death that had seeped into her mortal bones. Coyolxauhqui's open mouth tried to scream, tried to finish that cry of rage at being stopped when she was so close, but she found that she couldn't make a noise other than a whimper.

Eyes wide and filled with tears, Coyolxauhqui gazed at Quet -- no, it was the Doctor. She could see it. She could tell. Quetzalcoatl was gone. They were all gone; she could feel it.]

[He waited for her to calm, at least physically, and once she did, he kept a cool hand to her forehead for a moment as if to soothe the turmoil behind it, even if he was isolated. He watched her for a few seconds before turning away to rummage through the supplies he'd requested before.

He came back around with a smaller, dry cloth, and a small bottle of water, which he respectively used to dry her face around her eyes, and then open, holding the uncapped bottle up in plain view.]

Can you sit up and take a small sip at a time? D'you need me to prop you up?
