Wanna read something funny?...well not really funny

In my American Presidency class we took a survey at the beginning of the semester about our feelings about politics and where we stand on issues as far as party and ideology. Well there were a lot of questions pertaining to the current campaigns and, well here are some questions: "Bush should be reelected because:" and "Kerry should be elected ( Read more... )

Hey man, a big national debt is cool with me if it means winning the Cold War, thus putting to rest almost every ramification and remnant of WWII and ending the constant, overhanging threat of a Russian nuclear attack. I also enjoy tax cuts and the slashing and reform of certain social programs. Also he told some of the best political jokes I've ever heard, had some of the best one-liners ever, and had one of the largest approval ratings of any sitting President...ya I'd say the greatest...well maybe right after Truman and FDR, who were also great wartime Presidents.

the real issue in this election for Bush is do people have confidence in his leadership? In the military community, the resounding answer is no and he placates us by giving us more benefits while ignoring the fact that his lack of planning- (disbanding the Iraqi army after the combate phase, not giving us the amount of men needed to seal the border, using a backdoor draft, misusing our reservists) has undermined our confidence in him and its affecting all levels of the miitary. Regular citizens don't see that. Its unfortunate because may be then Americans would understand when I hear news that another one of my brave friends has fallen because he died in an isurgency that could of been prevented had our leaders been doing their job. sacrafice is synonomous with military life but incompetent leadership is not. These mistakes are glaring and major violations of basic principles establisihed under Reagan ( ... )

While I agree with you that Iraq should have been planned out better but I certainly disagree with you that Kerry would do a better job. I don't know how you can say that because it seems to me that all he wants to do is cut and run and then cut the military. I think we will much safer when Bush wins in November because I think Bush may be starting to realize his failures and I think he will do a better job fixing the mess he's made. I'll give you the fact that post-war Iraq right now is a disaster (taking a quote almost directly from Jay Severin), but I have much more faith in George Bush to fix his mess than I have faith in Kerry to do anything good for this country.
But Manny that's what's cool about this country, everyone can have a different view. And boy do I wish I had the balls you have to join the Marines.

scattered notes:

it's cool to be liberal...that's something people interested in intelligent conversation have to deal with. i'm sure a lot of the kids dissing bush were only doing so because they hear a lot of other people doing it. and why not? it's fun and i certainly do it...but you gotta have actual beliefs behind the jokes and i admit a lot of kids don't.

happiness and hopefullness aren't political platforms...in many cases they're not even the reality, and i'm certainly not going to vote for my president based on his abundance or lack of hope, because hope is subjective and i want my president to be realistic about the serious issues we're facing. saying "vote for this guy cause he's hopeful!" i think you're really grasping for straws.

i'd love to say some more stuff but my head is adrift in all the reading i've been doing lately and since i've only got more to look forward to, i've gotta get to the gym to break it up...cya later man

Dude, granted those are not political platforms, optimism is certainly way more helpful than pessimism. Kerry and almost the entire Democratic Pary's focus on the doom and gloom and conspiracy theories they've cooked up is quite frankly demoralizing. I was not providing commentary on the issues, I was merely pointing out that the Democrats are filled with rage and hatred toward Bush and not positive thinking that their candidate will be better and has better ideas. I think they picked the wrong candidate, they were so busy looking for someone they could claim as a war hero, in a war they hated no less (Vietnam), and telling people how horrible Bush is, that they didn't look at the man they chose to be their candidate for President. It scares the daylights out of me that a major political party could be so hellbent on just getting power back for themselves that they miss the point and the threat of everything that is going on ...it just scares me. After looking at everything that I have and seeing what Kerry is or isn't all about ( ... )

i'm certainly not a political science major, or know the ins and outs of politics, but i know what i feel is right. i know i sometimes dont have the guts to say it for fear of a hundred liberals screaming at me in the middle of class and making me feel wrong and idiot for my views (when they are just as valid as theirs).
it's "cool" to be conservative too, lets not forget that. i also love making fun of john kerry, but why am i looked down on and literally called stupid and a "mindless follower of my boyfriend" for doing that, and the ones who make fun of bush are "right" and "supported".
it gets frustrating and tiring, to always be on the defensive for your views. to be the odd man out in converstations and the one to be made into a fool for proclaiming that you are voting for bush. you liberals are supposed to be "equal rights for all!" "let no minority group feel left out!" "dont say that, you might OFFEND someone!"
.... hello?
