This continues to bother me: here in Salamanca (and every place in Spain that I've been to), you can pick out the extranjeros (foreigners) without even trying. I really wanted to not be like that. But I'm sure people can tell when I walk down the street.

No matter where you go, you can almost always point out the Americans. Even in Estonia, they were wearing sweatshirts (I was too, but it was my Collins hoody and not some loud sorority one), and they're always going to be annoying and unrefined in comparison to Europeans. Most of those people you see aren't in it for the same reasons you are- they're in it so their daddies can pay for them to party all semester and it not affect their GPA. This was a big factor in why I ended up not doing an IU program, because I knew I'd hang around them a lot and not meet people.

Don't let it get to you. Your wanting to be more integrated into society there is definitely not a bad thing, and although IU students will come and go, that experience definitely won't. Keep going out on your own, speak that Spanish, and be classier than the Soffe short people (I can't believe they wear those there!).
