Poor Jim! Spock didn't sound like was about to take the kolinahr path, i wonder if he takes the decition after this trip?
This period always make me sad, after he became admiral and Spock went to gol because it was the worst two and half years ever for Jim!
Obviouly the death of Spock was worse, but it was less time, and Jim had Spock and a life, the time in earth was like being dead alive trying to cope with the knowledge that you will never have anythingof worth, and with a broken link a top of that, in the movie Jim was so not himself, so lost, until Spock comeback
I really like it and i think too the only one who really wanted to leave the space was Bones

I haven't watchd much Star Trek (this fic was a present), so I may have got it wrong, but in my head this mission takes place soon after the end of the five-year one and only lasts around nine months. I think that's plenty of time for Spock to take the path to Kolinahr, and for the Enterprise to get refitted etc?
I think there's potential for a second story that explores what happens during the mining mission and looks at why Spock suddenly wants to take the path. Does he get too close to Jim?
I'll probably never write it, though, as this isn't my fandom. Somebody else is welcome to take a stab! :D
