You know...it really doesn't surprise me that Ray exhibits those qualities. I can see him being a retired gunslinger. He's so bumbling...but it's almost like that's all a mask for a hidden, primal, honed instinct. That would make a great novel, now that I think about it. A gunslinger in his retired years. Kinda like Hook...where The Gunslinger has forgotten his past, and all of a sudden it awakens in him years down the road. Adventures and chaos ensue. Hmmm...
And the comic book! Greatness! I'll keep an eye out for that. Thank you for the heads up!
Other Stephen King stories you need to read AFTER The Wastelands, but before the last four in the cycle:
The Stand (yes, I know its monstrous, but totally a masterpiece in its own right) Hearts in Atlantis(the book, NOT the movie) Insomnia Salem's Lot Rose Madder
I realize thats a double crapload of reading material, but the really brilliant part is that it all ties together. It even touches stories that I didn't name here, like Pet Sematary. King somehow managed to create a tapestry that you can really only see and nearly weep in its joy and grandeur from the end.
Yeah, I've read a lot of SK independantly from The Dark Tower Series. It's like I KNOW the man in black and R.F. made multiple appearances,(and it was semi-explained to me by other SK fans)but now it's being tied together. It was almost like seeing a puzzle, piece at a time, and finally understanding what it is (even though pieces are still missing). This series is just solidfying the whole for me. I absolutely love it. I'm really looking forward to reading the SK novels I haven't gotten to, and re-reading the old ones so I can gain FULL understanding. It's so exciting! I love series and/or continuity!
'sabout time you picked up that series--I have to agree though, with an earlier poster-type-person, though--The Talisman, and its sequel, Black House, are my two absolutely FAVORITE Stephen King (well, Stephen King w/Peter Straub) books of ALL FREAKIN' TIME. Another favorite author of mine is Dean Koontz, and his Fear Nothing, and Seize The Night are my two favorite books of his. I've also read the Chung Kuao series, though I can't remember who they're by, right now--Set in the future, answering the age-old question (HA!) of, "What if China took over everything and everybody lived in HUGE cities ruled by old-school-dynasty-type-hierarchies?" Then, obviously, the "Game Of Thrones" series, but you know this, chica bonita. Talk to you, later. Much love.
Bah the best opening to a book ever is "The wheal of time turns , and Ages come and pass leavng memories that become legend, then fade to myth, and are long forgot when theat Age comes again."
