Can we please, please be done with bitching out Asdrubal Cabrera already?  I won't deny he hasn't been doing great this year, but I honestly have no clue where people are getting this shit about him being selfish and a jerk and the ultimate cause of all the team's woes.

1. How quickly we forget about all the years past when Asdrubal was pretty much the single speck of anything good who pulled us through game after game, as much as he could.  You know, back when we didn't have a backup SS of at all usable caliber so he played almost every game, often through injuries he didn't make public.

2. He is not the ultimate cause of all the teams problems, nor is Chris Perez.  Stop selectively scapegoating, it's a really bitchy thing to do.  There are often other people who could have done better, and we generally don't blame them.  For example, the starting pitcher on Tuesday gave up two runs because he didn't listen to the catcher.  Do we blame him?  No, we talk about how he's a rookie who doesn't know better.

3. Just because he doesn't talk to the media much doesn't make him an asshole, okay?  I don't know where people keep getting these views that Asdrubal is a selfish douchebag who doesn't care about the team.  It can't be because he's not doing well, because wouldn't a selfish player want to do well so he could get traded?  Keep in mind Asdrubal settled for a lower salary than requested and stayed.  Yeah, he's getting paid a decent amount, but he's also been with this team and produced a great deal for /years/.  Nothing he's ever done has ever made him out to be an asshole.  He's never gotten arrested, he's never been involved in scandals, he's been nothing but loyal when it comes down to the wire, and his teammates like him.

4. Yeah, missing the steal was a bad mistake, and a costly one.  But--that wasn't the only factor, and more importantly it was an understandable mistake.  Asdrubal has always been good about reading the game--he's good at taking advantage of situations to move to the next base, and he's good at knowing when plays are coming.  I feel like this mistake was not an indicator of his ability to be a good baseball player, but more because he happened to see it as a foul, which was an honest mistake that I'm sure he doesn't need everyone to tell him was a mistake.

5. I am so, SO sick of the people who keep insisting we bring up our prospect SS from minor leagues because obviously Asdrubal is such a terrible SS.  You are majorly selling Asdrubal short, first of all.  Despite him not having a great year in general, he has been helpful multiple times, just in a small-ball and clutch fielding sort of way.  Secondly, do you really think pushing a prospect we recruited this year into the majors will be a good idea?  Just look at Salazar, who got promoted to starting pitcher and can't throw more than 5 innings a game, and doesn't listen to the catcher, and has now lost all but his first start.  Finally, I'm pretty sure the prospect is no longer an option since he was injured, so.

6. Yes, Aviles could be the SS.  I get it.  Can we just be done with the "if we get rid of Asdrubal it will fix all our problems and rainbows will shine out of our asses" game already?
