i figured out that my sound recorder has a fantastic feature i never knew about. while this feature is activated, the recorder will record any sounds that are present - but when the sounds stop, so does the recorder. it resumes recording when a sound is made

but it's on lo-fi recording right now! so who knows! i could position it in the middle of a long aisle to avoid extra voices around the outer edges/main lanes of the store. thanksgiving's over though, so i'll have to do it on some other completely ordinary day.
