[ So this is him, the Sasuke of Itachi's brother-complex. Interesting. Akira had been right, they did love each other, didn't they? Why are families so weird? What the hell happened that would make them like they are now?

Then he remembers Sakura's dream about Sasuke. Maybe neither of them are good people. Here, feeling the simple-yet-complex emotions of a child, it's hard to imagine he could have grown up to be a killer. But life takes its turns, right?

Akira's still touching the Hitomi and staring, so he feels by this point he ought to say something. ]

Mmh... sorry.

[He’s not sure what to do with it. The dream. It’s invasive and it’s rude to be here and watching it and he feels a little like a voyeur which he knows he should not but. Fact is, this feels a little sordid. Fact is, he should not be looking; in fact he should turn the Hitomi off right now because he knows Sasuke would not want him to look but, since when has Naruto ever done what Sasuke wanted?

He wants to see. He wants to look, to have this peek into what Sasuke’s childhood may have been like before everything went to hell.

So he does.

And then, in a way, he wishes he had chosen not to look.

There are things here he should not be seeing - bizarre cross-dressing Akatsuki aside- things like Sasuke's mother and she’s pretty he thinks, but she does look tired, and things like Sasuke wandering around alone and why isn’t anything keeping an eye on you? and Naruto is not sure he’s a big fan of Sasuke’s father.

You have a kid. This is your kid. Look at him.

Or Shisui

Of Sasuke, he thinks: you made a nice kid. But I think you were a ( ... )

[ Another dream of childhood. At least this one isn't half as depressing as the others. So Anko lets herself watch it, wondering about the youngest Uchiha, the one Orochimaru was after.

She makes a mental note to ask someone in Konoha later if--

--Oh, what in the...

That was not a girl.

That was that Akatsuki member--Deidara--in a dress. ]

Pff-

[Itachi wants to not feel.

If he couldn't feel he would not be able to sense the emotions coming from this dream--the admiration, the love, what could easily be possessiveness--because this hurts in more ways then he ever thought he would have to face.

This is before everything fell apart. This was before everything went wrong and he broken them so badly that what they once were was not fractured into the pieces of what they have become.

And yet despite the confusion and that heavy weight in his chest--which makes him clench his Hitomi with both hands--

There is a question in his mind. One he cannot ignore.]

Deidara?

[Then he realizes that in cleching his Hitomi he hit the call button.]

[He called.

... Why the fuck would he call?

What did he want? Did he just want to talk to Sasuke? Was he trying to tell him something?

Did he think he could just come back and talk to Sasuke like nothing had happened? No, he can't possibly be that stupid. Itachi is many things, but he's not an idiot and he's not delusional. And he would have to be rather deeply entrenched in denial to think that.]

Dreams are just the result of unconscious mind processing random pieces of information from memory. They don't mean anything.

[More to the point, why is Sasuke not hanging up? Okay, because he wants to know what Itachi is after, but - but he can't just talk to Itachi like this. He's not ready. Not even close to being ready. And even if he was ready he doesn't want to talk to Itachi. Ever again.

He glares at the Hitomi. Because this is all the Hitomi's fault.]

[It's all the damn Hitomi's fault. Itachi really wishes he could find a way to filter this damn thing...or at least find a better way of using it. The touch screen has always annoyed him.

But now he is trapped, unable to simply hang up--because Uchiha Itachi doesn't run from anything, not even his little brother--so instead he gives it the full attention it deserves.

Perhaps--possibly, maybe, even if not likely--this is what they have needed this entire time.

Kakashi's words come to mind again...but Itachi has no idea how to begin.]

It would seem that place creates many dreams that are contrary to the personal views and wishes of its inhabitants. Perhaps a byproduct of these devices we are unable to rid ourselves of.

[He hopes this is enough, because he has no idea what else he can do. How does one speak to the brother they have tormented for nine years, whose life he irreparably ruined until he is everything Itachi wanted--but didn't--him to be?]

[Sasuke isn't going to run either. Definitely not. He managed to kill Itachi, for fuck's sake. He isn't going to flinch from... talking to him.

Besides, he already responded. It's too late to hang up now. Hanging up now after he already responded would be ridiculous.

And Sasuke wants to hear what Itachi has to say. Because it's probably important, if he called. Although he sort of wishes Itachi would get on with telling him what it was. Because looking at Itachi's face and hearing Itachi's voice is making Sasuke feel almost sick.

Even knowing the truth, he can't help but look at those eyes and think, this is the one I have to hate. And thinking that just makes him angry at himself because it reminds him of how fucking blind he was.

He is quiet for a few seconds. His eyes roam the screen absently, like he's trying to think of something - anything - to say. He's tempted to just stay silent, except if he does that then this call is going to last forever and he doesn't want to it last. He wants it to end. But he won't hang up. So ( ... )

[Sasori is intrigued; he doesn't know all the circumstances that led to the Uchiha massacre, so seeing this hint of internal strife and tension that shines through even when viewed from an ignorant child's perspective is rather interesting.

However, his musings on these past events are promptly cut short.]

[Sasori has seen many horrifying things in his time. Indeed, he has perpetrated some of them himself.

But nothing quite compares to the sight of a smiling, blushing Deidara in a short skirt.

He's quite certain he'll be having nightmares about this in the future.]
