So, thanks to
painless_j and her recent explorations into Lord of the Rings fanfiction, I am suddenly rediscovering just how obsessed I can get over the stuff. I've had a hard time concentrating at work because I keep drifting off into slashland! (Not that I'm really complaining :))
However, I have noticed something interesting
Maybe I just lost all of my good links, but it seems that the quality of fic in HP fandom is superior to that of LotR. The major part of the difference probably lies in the pairings I choose; in HP, I'm a Snarry OTPer, and from my observations, those who read Snarry are a bit older and/or have been in fandom for a while, hence better quality fic. In LotR, I am rather embarrassed to find myself gravitating towards Aragorn/Legolas, which is more on par, popularity-wise, with Drarry or even, god forbid, Harry/Ginny.
The only fic I can think of in the entire fandom that I would call a favorite is the Kindred Spirits Arc by Ilye, which doesn't really even spend a whole lot of time on the Legolas/Aragorn.

The central plot is clicheed, and the angst is so overwhelming as to border on soap opera levels. However, despite this, it remains my best-loved fic in the fandom (and though I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, it is somewhere near the top of my all-fandom favorites list, too). So where are all of the high-quality fics? in most I find that the writing/grammar is so poor that I cannot stand to finish the story, and the rest are so highly clicheed that my eyes hurt from being rolled so much. I'm convinced I've just been looking in the wrong places. I only have a couple of my old LotR links so there must be some great sites that I've forgotten about. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be ever so grateful. *looks around hopefully*
Anyway, enough complaining, I'm off to search for some LotR LJ communities. Oh, and by the way, OMFG Viggo/Orlando!!!eleven!one! *death from nosebleed*
