Well said, well said.

Just a friendy reminder: Obama doesn't actually get the keys to the kingdom until Jan 20 or so. The Idiot-In-Chief has ample chance to fuck things up until then.

US has its major recent achievements in:

1. Encouraging rent-seeking and abusive behavior.
2. Gathering ill will from around the world.
3. Being a nice place for development of technology.

By turning (3) into a minefield exploited by (1) it has a good chance to become a very, very bad place for any kind of productive work.

National Public School Cirriculum? nakedputs November 5 2008, 16:30:31 UTC
You think an national public school cirriculum is a good thing? How about we just let the Federal Government run everything. They do such a wonderful job. God, help us from the nut cases here on Earth!

1. There are LESS nutcases in the federal government than in States, and their stupidity is more visible.

2. US is the only country that does not have a common school curriculum, and the least educated among countries with comparable amount of wealth per capita.

3. "Standardized testing" has an effect of determining the curriculum anyway -- except with no research, no recommendations of psychologists, no consistency check, and with both federal and local officials refusing to take any responsibility for developing a curriculum that makes sense, or assigning any amount of resources for this task.

4. Creating a school curriculum is VERY HARD, and it can not be accomplished at the level of individual states. Especially with the ratio of State-level nutcases per student messing with it.
