New camera
I have replaced the last device that the robbers taken on July 3 -- a digital camera. I wanted a cheap (up to $200) camera that would be a reasonable improvement over the stolen one, so I have bough Fujifilm FinePix A900, choosing it mostly for its image quality in low light. Help me find an apartment in Berkeley
Update: I have found an apartment in Emeryville, within a reasonable walking/cycling distance from work.Almost two months ago I have got a job in Berkeley. I still own a large condo in Denver, and pay about $1900/mo in mortgage and maintenance for it, however I can't rent it out with all my furniture in it. On July 3 I have returned to San Francisco from an interview in Palo Alto, and before going back to Dmitry's (dk379) home where I was living at the time, I went to Sugarlump cafe, and was working there on something while drinking coffee until closing at 10pm. I guess, it was a bad idea to stop writing, however every time I thought, I have something to write, I discovered that I can't do it without sounding ridiculously whiny and hopeless. San Francisco photos
Anyone who arrives in San Francisco with a camera seems to have an obligation to take (and probably post somewhere) some photos of well-known city landmarks, and some photos of something unusual. Even though I have lived in that area before, and therefore it's possible that this obligation does not apply to me, here are the photos:

San Francisco Bay Area
Since May 22, and I don't know for how long, I am in San Francisco Bay Area. Met dk379 and other people whom I haven't seen in years. Nobody expects a double disk failure
Yesterday I was doing some remote maintenance on the company's servers while sitting at a coffee shop. A combination of OpenVPN and ssh allows me to access everything from outside, serial consoles don't let me lose the connection to servers in the case of some severe networking misconfiguration, or installing a bad kernel, so I didn't have to be in ( Read more... ) -

Most of the pages are placeholders, and I am not yet sure how it will be organized. Layout and menus by yours truly. Tables in the submenus and various other kinds of extreme ugliness by whoever made MSIE misinterpret ,
