At first, he thought the knocking was for the unit next door. The knock came again, and he was off the couch. There was only one person who visited him at home. Angie. He opened the door with a surprised smile, only to have it fade at the 'we have to talk.'
"That sounds ominous. Come on in. I can make us something to drink. You want tea or something stronger?" David was getting the 'breaking up' vibe from Angie, and to tell the truth he'd been expecting it for a while now. He'd given her space, and not tried to smother her. Maybe that wasn't the best of tactics now that he thought about it.
"Make yourself at home, I just got a new couch. It's amazingly comfortable." Comfortable to the point of making him sleepy whenever he sat on it too long. A huge change from his old one, which was so broken in you could barely sit still for fear of the springs poking you someplace sensitive.
Angie took a deep breath and walked in, she was silent until she got to the couch. She needed to sit, she was shaking, Angie really didn't know how David was going to react.
"No, no I'm alright. Thank you though." She was watching him, just wanting him to sit down so she could talk to him. Finally when she couldn't wait any longer she started, "The other day while you were working I had Grissom, Nick and Greg over for dinner."
She paused to look at him, "Grissom and me were in kitchen alone, and he kissed me." Now Angie was definitely shaking, she was watching him carefully, trying to read him. "I wanted to tell you, I didn't think it was fair for you not to know. It didn't go any farther than that, but you deserve to know." Angie's eyes were locked on his.
David felt like the wind had gone out of his sails. He'd expected just about anything but that. "Kissed you? What the fuck happened to Sara? Why's he kissing you?" David blurted before he had much time to think. Fucking Grissom couldn't keep his hands to himself. Did he really need to nail everyone in the lab?
Maybe Nick was right. Hodges didn't believe what Nick had been telling him in the breakroom over the last few weeks. Why Nick felt the need to confide in him about Greg's infidelity with Grissom was beyond his comprehension, but David had listened and not rendered judgement. Not until now.
He took a few deep breaths. "What happened...exactly?" It wasn't that he needed the details, but he needed some sort of justification for when he confronted Grissom and punched his lights out, and something to tell unemployment while he looked for another job.
Angie flinched slightly, it was what she would have expected but she knew that the whole story wasn't out and she was just as responsible. Angie knew she couldn't make Grissom out to the be bad guy in this, she had to take responsiblity
