((Very few people 'get' Thorn, because he doesn't let anyone in. He'd be a little surprised to hear his skin condition described as an illness, and every time anyone's offered to cure it or attempt to, he's shied away from the offer as poiltely as he can, which says something, although it's hard to say what. The subservience is largely due to his life experience, as the time he came from had a more rigidly observed social structure and it was quite clear he lived very close to the bottom of that.))
