The other day I happened to walk by the Donut Plant. I read about it a few weeks ago and was instantly intrigued by their inventive approach to donuts. The original Donut Plant is in Chinatown not too far from my office. I've been avoiding going near it since these days I feel it's best to read about desserts than partake. It seems the Donut Plant

Were they positioning it as a "healthy" doughnut?

I think that was the idea... to make people feel less guilty about having a donut. One would have to be pretty deluded to fall for that.
