Changeling: The Gilliam AUs

So, as it turns out, Terry Gilliam films are really easy to twist into alternate universes based in White Wolf's Changeling: The Lost roleplaying game. The Queen in 'Brothers Grimm' is really a Fae in disguise, as is the "Devil" in 'Doctor Parnassus.' 'Brazil' is an Arcadian nightmare. You get the idea ( Read more... )

I thought it was alright. It was fun!Gilliam, not meant to be too mindtwisty or to be analyzed upside-down and sideways. That's what I went in expecting, so I wasn't disappointed.

I thought all of Tony's stuff was well-done; nice piece of serendipity (or re-writes) that they got all his out-of-the-mirror bits done before... well, y'know. Heath was Heath. John, Jessie and I concluded that he was doing a Jack Sparrow voice with a Jacob Grimm physicality (spastic hands and all). I wasn't wowed, but it was fun to watch.

Lily Cole is farking gorgeous, and I liked Valentina as a character, though I bristled a bit when she ended up with Anton. Not that I didn't like him, but... from what we saw, she was clearly not as into him as he was into her. She should have wound up on her own, or with someone else entirely.

Tom Waits, with his devil-voice and his bowler hats and his little dances. Awesome.

And yes, the death speech made me tear up (although I know that that speech was already written in the script before Heath died... still... ;_

You know, it's the damndest thing, but in hindsight this flick must have had some pretty unmemorable characters, because I'm reading this post and wondering who the hell half these people are. I mean, I didn't love "The Brothers Grimm" (for instance) but I can still tell you about the people and what they got up to, and I saw it far longer ago ( ... )
