That is the most polite, yet most disappointing note I've read so far :(

The "there were some applications of the highest calibre that have unfortunately taken precedence." part really gets to me.

Damn this bad economy, no one can find jobs anywhere :(

Keep it up Nik, someone with your qualifications doesn't stay unemployed forever.

Do what you love and they'll come to you.

Ok, not to be nit-picky or anything, but...

"I am writing to inform you that unfortunately you have been unsuccessful in your application..."

... makes no sense. If you applied for the job and they were aware of the application and followed through with it, then your application was successful. Just because you were unsuccessful in obtaining the position doesn't mean the application was unsuccessful.

And UNSUCCESSFUL?! What an awful word! I would never ever tell someone they were unsuccessful in something. It's like saying "You lost." Better off just to thank them for the application and tell them another candidate was chosen.

Sorry you didn't get the job :(

I can sympathize. And hey, at least they bothered to send you a response, right? I didn't even get that from some.

The impression I got from some of your prior entries is that you're good at what you do, so I bet something will come along eventually.
