New layout! I loved my other one, but as soon as I saw this one, I had to change!
Anyways, some weeks ago I discovered Black Books and after watching all of the episodes, I proceeded to consume all the other Dylan Moran stuff I could find. Now, I have a new crush.
What made me write this, however, was some reactions to Run Fatboy Run I read, mostly on IMDB.
Most of these (at times, very) negative reactions to the movie were not only surprising for me, since I liked it very much (hey, I love me some fluff, what can I do?) but also and, really, mostly because these people seemed to be most peeved at the fact that this movie just isn't like Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.
Really.
Now, seriously, who goes and watch a feelgood romantic comedy and think "nah, it will be just like that zombie movie, no matter what genre they say it is, because, after all, both movies share Simon Pegg (and Dylan Moran) and the guy, after all, can only make one type of movie"? It's like me attempting to compare Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with Snow Cake just because they both have Alan Rickman in it!
And, anyway, it's ridiculous to watch a movie or approach any kind of story with all this expectations e prejudices and then judge the thing based on those. Why can't we just sit down and relax and, maybe, enjoy what you're watching? Mind you, you can dislike it, of course you can, but what I'm trying to say is: let's judge a story by its own merits, independently, not only of our prejudices, but of the writer's intents and opinions or, even, independently of our peers opinion.
Which brings me to another thing it's been bugging me.
When I first saw the third series of Doctor Who, it was a marathon and, since I didn't saw most of the episodes again, some of the details became a bit fuzzy. A lot of its details, actually, since my memory isn't the best out there. And so, it became that I just accepted that Last of the Time Lords sucked. Granted, the Tinkerbell Jesus number was so horrid that it stayed in my memory and, so, the whole episode was reduced to that single very bad and cheesy moment and as everyone else said it was crap, I believed.
But as I caught this episode on the telly (I reckon it's the third time the channel broadcasts series 3, but it's in such a complicated slot...), I found myself quite liking it. In fact, I have to say now that this episode rocks, that Simm was awesome, Martha's wonderful and all that fangirly stuff.
Of course, the glowy Doctor and the whole 'I forgive you' scene still suck, but I find myself more that willing to overlook it.
