Move over Chrisy boy...the Mexican revolution is at hand. This movie went far and above my expectations. I feared a lack of continuity from the first two, I was apprehensive about the shift in creative ideas. But no longer. Is there any way we can use Hermione's little doohicky to go back in time, tie Chris Columbus up with gaff tape in a closet, and then kidnap Cuaron to 'remake' the first two??? Hey...it could work.
Reasons why this movie Kicked Ass:
-Imagery got darker to match the tone of the third book. If you've read the books (or at least the first three) you should know they get progressively darker...duh)
-Nice camera work
-Awesome computer effects (but perhaps a bit too much in the Lupin/Werewolf vs. Sirius/Dog (aka Snuffles) fight) I was impressed.
-Hermione got to punch Malfoy
-Ron and the Spider Dream, "You tell those spiders, Ron." Damn good deadpan delivery by Harry boy.
-Buckbeak was cute...yes, you know it..don't deny it.
-Oldman....excellent job. I was skeptical but I'm prepared to eat crow on this one.
-New Dumbledore...I hate to say it, but I think he was better than Richard Harris in some parts.
-Cheery bluebird(s) vs. the Womping Willow. Awwwwww yeeeahhhhhh....
-Lupin and the Big Band music...excellent touch. I like him even more now.
-Alan Rickman in drag (sort of).
-Chocolate is STILL a medicine....so glad that made it into the movie.
-Smooth transition from event to event as the story went by...much better than Columbus' efforts in the previous two.
Questions:
-Dude, what happened to Crabbe and Goyle? They kept changing on me.
-Ummm...did anyone notice that they never explained who Prongs, Moony, Padfoot, and Wormtail were? Oversight, I'm sure, but still. Could we be a little more careful when wielding the scissors and pay a bit more attention to the cutting room floor?
-Where is Cho Chang? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of her getting her butt kicked but we could've at least seen her face by now. Guess she'll pop up in the fourth movie.
I'm sure I'll think of more as time passes.
