Most Indoor Rowing events are split by gender, age and by weight (heavyweight/lightweight) - so there are usually lots of medals to go for ;-).
For most events the age bands are 10 years (in my case 50-59), in the British Championships they are split further so there I'm now competing as a 55-59 heavyweight, though there are still a dozen or so competitors in my category.
Last year I missed a medal because a) I did a lousy time (8:13) and b) because there was also very good Canadian entrant, the winner (Anna Bailey) is British but also the world champion and record holder. When Anna isn't competing I often win - I won the English, Welsh, Notts and Southern championships last year - in my category.
