So Here's A Question......

Am working at Banyan this morning, one of the characteristics of which is that you are constantly talking about and/or talking to very successful people. And I was thinking (somewhat distractedly) that a large portion of my own worldview revolves around a central tenet: That I personally, and to a large extent those around me as well, will be ( Read more... )

Personally, I do that quite a lot. It's the only thing that got me through the Bush years.

But I think it worth considering that there are a lot of people out there that don't have that central tenet to rely on - not everybody has the same opportunities that we have.

In that vein of thinking, I would wonder how your worldview would change if, for some reason, you could not rely on that central tenet.

Even when I was a kid, I seemed to have come from a place where I was quite sure that I would NEVER be happy and NEVER be comfortable/in control/on top. It's just recently that I've been able to hold the idea that it's possible that I may be happy, comfortable, in control, etc ( ... )

I feel somewhat similar... I call it a funny sense of luck, just because my life seems to take the right turns on big things but mock me on small things. Whatever one wants to call it, I'm always grateful for it, hope that it will continue, and I can't really imagine (or plan for it) not continuing, although I know that'd suck; I wouldn't say that I *assume* it'll always be true, but it's pretty close to that. I also feel like it (whatever it is) puts an imperative on me to do something good/useful with what I have, which in turn colors a lot of *my* worldview.

I do that a lot too. At the same time though, I can't entirely divorce what I choose to do from my own conceptions of my ability to do it. I'm pretty risk averse, so maybe I just think I'll succeed because I haven't tended to overreach in my ambitions. I really can't say and have to think more about this...
