Would it sound stupid to say that I never thought that she would leave? It doesn't make sense that anyone I know would disappear. It must be one of those things. You hear about stuff happening to other people, but it doesn't really register as something that could happen to you

Haruhi had just gotten out of school for the day. Remembering that Kyon had said he wanted to talk to her about something, she waited by the school's entrance quietly, leaning against the wall.

After getting out of class, Kyon went to the restroom to wash up, and then headed for the school's entrance.

Then he decided to turn around and wash up a little more.

Then he headed for the school's entrance.

Then he turned and decided to head past the classroom where he found Haruhi that one afternoon when it was raining. Poking his head inside, he could see that it was empty.
