Keep your eyes on the ground. That way you shall avoid both unnerving the animals by looking them in the eye and the piles of various excrement. Plus you might be lucky and see a snake. Though a lot of ground lies between us, hopefully we shall speak often and share exploits... speaking as one who also has very sporadic internet access.
