[for Karen]

The thing was, Alistair was no more knowledgeable about the concept of 'dating' than he'd been before this place. It wasn't like she thought he was dumb, but Alistair never struck Karen as the reading type. He was way too King Arthur's table, and seemed like he'd be more at home with his swords (and Nerf guns) than cooped up inside reading a book. He'd been frowning without even realizing it, and the voice beside him pulled him out of his thoughts (which had begun to wander into the self-deprecating territory, admittedly).

The question was something he was immediately hesitant to answer, if only because it wasn't something he liked to advertise. "I was hoping to learn more about something. It seems this bookcase isn't going to be forthcoming, though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised."

Maybe she could help. Admittedly, this would have been a matter he turned to Zelda for, but that...obviously was not something he could do at the moment.

"Oh, yes, actually," he said, scratching the back of his neck. It was probably a good thing there weren't too many people, because the thought of someone overhearing would make things worse. "But...promise you won't laugh. Out loud, I mean."
