It'd seemed he and Zelda had dodged a potential bad situation. Though he was grateful they both had gotten out before whatever happened down below that had others trapped in that place, there was a guilt he couldn't quite shake still. He could be doing something down there. Instead, he was among the many waiting to hear everyone was okay ( Read more... )

Times like these, Lucy was glad to no longer be in a position of authority among island residents. Once, she'd have appreciated it, handled herself well in what was obviously a crisis situation; now, she had too much else to think about already, and was just grateful that no one she was close to had gotten trapped down in Rapture. It would have been more than she knew what to do with.

For now, she wasn't too distracted by everything that was going on, aware of it but not needing to focus on it. So it was that she caught sight of Alistair right away upon entering the kitchen, heading over with a faint smile, grateful to see that he, too, was alright.

"Hey," she said warmly, resting a hand against the counter. "How's it going?"

It was at the forefront of his mind, too, how lucky he was no one close to him was down there. That he was checking purely out of duty to this place and not because someone he knew was trapped.

"Oh, I've been worse," he replied, shooting a similar smile toward Lucy as he finished putting together his food. "Would you like me to make you one?"

"Actually, that sounds pretty great," Lucy said, glancing at the plate of food and nodding in agreement. She'd meant, of course, to fend for herself, and had no problem doing so, but since he'd offered and had everything out already, there wasn't any real reason not to take him up on it. "I kind of think that could be a regular catchphrase around here, you know? No matter how bad things get, usually, it's still been worse."

He slid the plate across to her before grabbing another to start over again. It was easier this way, though he hoped she liked the way he'd made it.

"Did you go down there at all?" he asked, glancing curiously in her direction. She didn't seem the type, but then, he'd learned a long time ago appearances meant nothing - not here, not in Ferelden, not anywhere.

Part of Nick -- the part that walked straight into danger, regardless of the consequences -- was desperate to get involved in this latest situation on the island. But he knew himself far too well these days, and he knew nothing good would come of his involvement. He was better off staying put, checking in with the Council to see where he was needed, and just wait it out.

But still, it gnawed at him, that there wasn't anything he was able to do.

"Hey," Nick said, setting down his own plate with a half-made sandwich. "Not in your way, am I?" he asked.

"I don't think you need much space for this kind of food," Alistair replied, shifting a little to give him even more room. "Guess we had the same idea for a meal, huh?"

Nick spread out his supplies and started assembling his sandwich. "Great minds think alike and all," he said with a quiet laugh. "I don't know about you, man, but I stick to what I'm best at. And sandwiches are about the extent of my kitchen ability, these days."
