Alistair had come to grips, as much as one could, with the fact he was a female for now. He realized it wasn't as bad as it could be in the grand scheme of things, but it still was disconcerting to say the least ( Read more... )

Despite knowing this would end soon, Olivia was spending her day exploring the island. She had a backpack with some slightly smashed muffins and water, and the map her older self had made was in her hands. She was tracing the paths on the map as she walked them, and even made a few notes on it with things she thought older-her would like to know when she grew up again.

With just as many answers as questions in her head, she decided to stop for a snack, moving into the trees for shade. When she heard a dog barking, however, curiosity got the best of her and she headed back down the sand toward it.

Duncan skidded to a stop at the sound of the scream, head turning in the girl's direction. His head tilted as he made a low whining noise, as if unsure what to do. By then, Alistair had gotten up and gone over to retrieve the hound, if only to try to calm the girl he'd accidentally startled down.

The mabari did sit, obediently, letting out another low whine as he looked between Alistair and the stranger.

"I'm fine," Olivia immediately responded, already embarrassed at having been startled by the dog. When he wasn't running at her he seemed kinda harmless, just like any other dog out there, just...bigger. Way bigger than any dog Olivia had seen before, though she hadn't really been around many.

"He just scared me for a second, that's all."

"He doesn't know his own size sometimes," he replied, sounding sympathetic. At least she wasn't hurt in the ensuing charge to get the stick. "I don't believe we've met before. My name is Alistair. This hound's name is Duncan."

Almost seeming to be a greeting in itself, Duncan 'woof'ed cheerfully, ears perking up.
