No one had suspected that the heirs to the land of Noah were mages.
No one had expected the deaths, the fires, the control of the mind. Daisya had fallen, Cross's fairy magic hadn't kept him alive, and the lands had fallen into the hands of Lord Noah himself. He called himself the Millennium Emperor now, and he had smiled as he had imprisoned the Tiedoll family. Yuu had been separated, kept in the tallest tower awaiting her marriage to prince Cyril. The Earl's magic had ensured that the curse could, and would be broken, without love being involved.
Marriage was what counted now. Nothing else. And the marriage would ensure that the citizens of the land of Black Order would be entirely obedient. And then all would fall into place for the Noah family. They would have the largest kingdom on this half of the world. And their power would be undisputed.
The princess had not taken kindly to what had happened. Dressed in the ridiculous white gowns that the Noah favored, she mourned her brother quietly in the tower, and wondered if her old father would survive this. Her brother Marie had escaped to go for help, but he had been gone so long that Yuu wondered if he had been taken down quietly. And she watched from the window as her little birds tried to avoid the massive dragon that had been set as sentry, and winced as one got too close to the terrible jaws.
And this was what she saw, day in and day out. Nothing but misery and solitude, and the promise of a terrible future as the bride of a sadist. And she dreamed quietly of how things had been and tried to escape up until the day came that she was to marry the bastard prince.
The chapel felt like a war zone. Her father and some of her more trusted servants had been drug from the prisons to bear witness to this terrible event, and the hired guests didn't seem all that happy about being there. Yuu suspected that at least half of the congregation was undead, like the disgusting soldiers that the Noah family kept. Held against her will, Yuu listened as the Millennium Emperor happily read them their vows.
Her husband to be was disturbingly giddy about the whole event, and as she watched him beaming as he spoke his false promises of faith, love, and protection her mind wandered off to another. A different Tyki, not the one dozing off in the front row of pews. One with an obnoxious personality, a teasing smile, and kisses that made her feel alive. The man who half the time she wanted to toss out of a high tower window, and the other half of the time wanted to give herself to for eternity.
He didn't love her either. But at least with him, she felt like he was worth the effort anyway. And she clenched her fists, and she just knew that she couldn't let this happen. It didn't matter if her love was returned or not, he was the one for her. And marrying this idiot was betraying not only him, but her own heart. And she felt something welling up within her, something dark and determined that she just could not explain.
She would not marry the heir to the Noah kingdom today. And the Noah family would not take their lands. And blood would be shed to prevent it, even at the cost of her own life in necessary.
